  1. Sailing is fun. It is great to silently let the wind push you. It is great to know how the wind can push the boat and not need a motor. Start small, like a sunfish to learn to sail and learn how the wind works. Take a course, Red Cross gives sailing courses as do private places and yacht clubs.

  2. -Yes, sailing is fun.

-Pros-great when there's wind and you know how to control your sailboat.

-Cons-can be not so fun when the wind dies and you're on the other side of the lake or ocean or the wind is out of control

-Buying: Take a Red Cross course in sailing or take a course from your local parks and recreation department, so you learn how to sail a small boat, and know the basic parts of it, and how to take care of it

-Learning it: It's not too hard to learn. Hardest part is getting the sailboat out and back in without hitting piers, boats, or people.

There are also classes for learning how to sail a 24-30 foot sail boat as well, if you decide you like it. But there's usually sailing clubs you can join, and people are always looking for hands to help sail their boats.

    Good luck!

  3. Learn how to sail before you buy.  There is a certain liberation with sailing, and only sailing, because on a relatively small boat you can go literally anywhere in the world.  The only limitations are your skills and food/water.

Sailboats are graceful, quiet, and peaceful.

On the flip-side, they are more work to operate.  You don't just turn it on and go.  The maintenance costs are probably comparable to motor boats, but less frequent, and dependant on the size of the boat.  A good boat to start with would be a Sunfish or comparable.  They are small and nimble, good starter boats.  For a weekender you might want something more like a Hunter or Southcoast.  Something in the 25' range.  Several brands have boats in that size with a swing keel, good for getting into shallower water and easier to trailer.

  4. its realy fun, not to hard to learn and make shour the boat is wather worthy
