Sailing the pacific.. could I grow plants on my boat?

I'm gonna be sailing the pacific.. could I reasonably grow some plants on my boat ?

  1. Yes is the answer to your question, I've seen a couple boat owners in a marina in Florida that built collapsible greenhouses which they lifted up when out of the marina to protect from saltwater. Then when coming back dropped the greenhouse at the marina. But keep in mind you would need an abundant source of fresh water, like a water maker, so you wont waste your boats presious fresh water.  


  2. Spices work Ok but it a pain to grow tom= or peppers as they need sunshine and just the salt air kills them>

  3. If you keep them inside when their is sea spray

    Sea spray will kill them

    And fresh water must be used to water them

  4. Many sailors grow sprouts. They are nutritious and easy to grow, requiring minmal resources.
