Saina Nehwal's victory at Denmark Open threatens Chinese supremacy in Women’s Singles category
India’s Saina Nehwal, the most successful shuttler in history of badminton in her respective country, becomes a major threat for the domination of the power-packed line up of female players from China as she has recently won the Denmark Open Premier Super
Series 2012, ended on October 21, indicating that she is the best in business at the moment.
The 22-year-old Saina, who has got an elevated position in world ranking by reaching at number four, stayed away from arena after Olympic Games 2012 for about two months and surprised everyone by grabbing the title in a dominating fashion.
Saina was seeded at number three in Women’s Singles main draw of the tournament and she displayed her top class skills by playing to her maximum potential in the arena. She remained successful in winning the crown without losing even a singles set throughout
Denmark Open which shows that she is on the top of her form.
The impressive Indian shuttler started her journey at the Denmark Open in a dominating way. She took on Korea’s World Number 12 Bae Yeon Ju in the first round and played with remarkable precision throughout the battle. The positive and planned game of Saina
helped her to register a comprehensive victory over the Korean as she finished up the battle in straight games.
In the following round, the third seeded Indian shuttler was up against Japan’s Minatsu Mitani who was also in remarkable form. However, Saina did not show any mercy to her rival all the way and remained successful in finishing up this second round clash
in straight games with a comfortable margin on score board.
In the quarter-final clash of this Premier Super Series event at Odense, Saina was up against the local favourite and World Number Six Tine Baun who is one of the most experienced shuttlers in the Women’s Singles category in the world.
However, Baun could not live up to the expectations of her Danish fans as she was helpless against the positive and attacking play of her higher ranked India opponent and remained struggling all the way. She failed to create gap in the court of her rival
who was commanding the pace of rallies without showing any sign of struggle.
Saina was in tremendous form while playing against Baun as she did not drop her speed at any stage all the way in the match and remained successful in finishing this Women’s Singles quarter-final clash in straight games with a remarkable margin on score
board.
In the semi-final contest, Saina took on the World Number One Wang Yihan of China. She played terrific badminton without showing any respect to her rival and took the game quite easily with a huge margin. She was also leading the game with a comfortable
margin in the following set when Yihan could not continue playing as she got an injury and left the court sending Saina into the final.
In the title match, Saina locked horns against Germany’s top player Juliane Schenk who has been placed at number seven in Women’s Singles world ranking. She played with wonderful precision and did not spare any chance for her lower ranked challenger all
the way and easily finished off the final battle in straight games with a huge margin and won the title in an elegant fashion.
Three top seeded Chinese shuttlers went down against different lower ranked shuttlers in Denmark Open and Saina’s incredible form is quite alarming for these Chinese female players who have shown a tendency of losing against un-seeded or lower ranked opponents
over the last few months.
