Saina Nehwal crushes Lianne Tan in Women’s Singles Group E at 2012 London Olympics
India’s mega star Saina Nehwal continued putting up staggering show and kept her medal hopes alive as she played impressive badminton and easily crushed Lianne Tan of Belgium in Women’s Singles Group E at the 2012 London Olympics at Wembley Arena, London,
on Monday, July 30.
The in-form Saina, who has been positioned at number five in Women’s Singles world rankings, played was in completely commanding position throughout the contest and she did not face any trouble in beating her Belgian opponent in a one-sided fashion.
The impressive Indian shuttler, who has been seeded at number four in the tournament, was on a different level as she dictated the pace of rallies in the whole battle and remained successful in crushing her rival in straight sets with a huge difference.
The lower ranked Lianne, on the other hand, failed to live up to expectations as she could not match the speed of her Indian opponent and also failed to remain positive in her shots. She lost the match rather easily without showing her class on court.
Right from the opening rallies in first game, Saina did not take much time in setting up her supremacy as she took an early lead without putting in extra effort.
The in-form Indian player proved that she belongs to a different class as she set up an impressive lead until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Saina continued showing her brilliance on court as she did not lose her focus and easily grabbed the opening game with a stunning 21-4 score on the board.
In the second game, Lianne played good badminton and matched the pace of rallies which helped her to stick around her rival on score board at the initial stage.
However, Saina injected more power into her shots and also paced up the rallies which assisted her to take a comfortable lead until the break.
After the interval, the higher ranked Indian shuttler remained on track without losing her focus and ended up the set with a wonderful margin of 21-14.
Saina easily won this Women’s Singles battle without dropping any set by putting up a staggering 21-4 and 21-14 score on the board.
