Saina Nehwal elated after winning Women’s Singles title at Thailand Open GP Gold
India’s top shuttler Saina Nehwal is quite happy with her victory at Thailand Open GP Gold that ended on Sunday, June 10, at Bangkok, Thailand.
The World Number 5 Saina, who was top seed in Women’s Singles draw in the tournament, showed her mental strength in the final match and overpowered the local shuttler Ratchanok Inthanon in three games.
The higher ranked Indian lost the first game but bounced back into the match and took the following games to grab the Women’s Singles title in an emphatic fashion.
This was the second title for Saina in the current year as she defended her title at the 2012 Swiss Open GP Gold and now victory at the Thailand Open came at the right time just ahead of Indonesia Open Premier Super Series.
After winning the final Saina said, “Overall, I am very happy with my performance because I was more relaxed and calm during the matches and it worked for me. I didn't commit easy mistakes, I played long rallies and had some good smashes and also my net
play was good.”
She added, "I am very happy to win this title. It was not easy but I played well in a lot of tough matches but it was a good win to have before the Indonesia Super Series. It was a very good match practice and a right way to start the preparation for Olympics.”
In the opening set of final contest, Saina remained struggling in the court and failed to find a good rhythm which helped her Thai rival to dominate the pace of rallies.
The Indian failed to play her normal game and lost the opening game with a tight score of 19-21.
However, she did not get confused with the loss of opening game and remained patient in the court.
The top seeded Indian was in full control in the second game while remaining focused in the court and grabbed the set with a 21-15 margin on the board.
In the final set, Saina was everywhere in the court leaving no room for Ratchanok to place her shots.
The Indian remained miles ahead of her Thai rival on the score board and eventually bagged the set easily with a stunning score of 21-10.
Saina emerged as the title winner by beating Ratchanok in the title match with a 19-21, 21-15 and 21-10 score on the board.
