Saina Nehwal finds decent Women’s Singles draw in the 2011 World Championships – Badminton News
India’s most celebrated and successful shuttler, Saina Nehwal, found an easy draw in the Women’s Singles category of the 2011 World Badminton Championships, which will kick-off at the Wembley Arena in London, on August 8, 2011.
The 21-year-old Saina got a decent Women’s Singles draw, as she will not face any top shuttler in the round matches and her road is quiet clear until the quarter-final stage. Her tough test will start from the top-8 stage, as she will start meeting Chinese
shuttlers one after the other, if she continues her winning streak.
Saina is currently standing on the Sixth spot in the Women’s Singles world rankings. She will also be the sixth seed in the draw of the World Championships. The Indian is one of the top shuttlers in the world of badminton, who can shake the domination of
Chinese ladies in the category of Women’s Singles.
While talking about the Women’s Singles draw, Saina said, “I think it's a decent draw. I get some time to settle down there. But I should be careful against my second round opponent Firdasari. I played her about a year back and she has very good strokes.
From the quarters it gets tougher.”
Saina has got bye in the first round of the event and she is expected to face Indonesia’s Adrianti Firdasari in the second round of the championship. In the Women’s Singles round-of-16, the Indian will most probably meet Hong Kong’s Pui Yin Yip, who is seeded
at number 14 in the event.
Nehwal is expected to pass all the hurdles which stand in her way to qualify for the quarter-final of the championship, where she will be tested by China’s Wang Xin, who is currently World Number Three. Saina has recently defeated the Chinese shuttler at
the Sudirman Cup in May, 2011, in China.
If Saina wins the quarter-final battle, then she will be up against World Number Two, Wang Yihan of China in the semi-final. The Indian is expected to perform well in the World Championships, as she is the only shuttler who can put up a strong show against
the top seeded Chinese females in the mega event.
