Saina Nehwal happy as BAI approves proposal to hold Indian Badminton League to promote the game
Indian Women’s Singles top seed and World Number Six, Saina Nehwal, is happy with the decision of the Badminton Association of India (BAI) to accept the proposal of the commencement of Indian Badminton League.
The successful completion of Maharashtra Badminton League (MBL) took place in May, 2011, at Pune. The achievement urged the Maharashtra Badminton Association to take this big step and put forward the proposal of organising the league in the whole country.
By keeping in view the success of MBL, the BAI approved the proposal and the national league is expected to take place from 2012.
While talking about the national league, Saina said, “It is a very good step. The national league will be a huge boost for all the players. The money, which they will earn by playing in the league, can be utilized for participation in international tournaments.
They will also gain vital experience which will improve their confidence to face tougher challenges.”
Pradeep Gandhe, president of MBA, while speaking about the event said, “Everyone knows MBL was a hit. It gave new dimension as far as badminton in state is concerned. Now, we want to do it for the entire country.”
Saina said that she will enjoy playing with Indian shuttlers if the schedule of the international events does not clash with the dates of the Indian Badminton League. The top seed is quite optimistic that this constructive step will generate more talented
shuttlers from every corner of the country.
For the last few years, the level of India’s badminton has improved to a greater level. The reason behind this improvement is that Indian players are participating in all major international tournaments on a regular basis, which is playing a pivotal role
in the improvement of their skills.
The Indian Badminton League will help BAI to find talent from the whole country and nourish the potential shuttlers by providing them with the latest training facilities. This national league is expected to take Indian badminton to a different level.
