Saina Nehwal happy to become India’s first bronze medallist at Olympic Games 2012
India’s badminton star Saina Nehwal, who has taken the sport to a higher level in the country, is happy with her achievement at the Olympic Games 2012 as she has claimed Women’s Singles bronze medal to become the first Indian shuttler to have a medal.
Saina, who is currently ranked at number five in Women’s Singles world placements, has been working to her maximum potential to elevate herself in the game and touch the best level.
The 22-year-old Saina showed that she has got the skills to challenge the world especially the formidable Chinese female shuttlers who are known as the best in the arena of badminton.
The Indian badminton queen has been putting in extra effort in her training sessions under the supervision of the national coach Pullela Gopichand.
It was the steely determination and commitment to the game that brought glory for Saina at the Wembley Arena in London as she finished at number three in the tournament and claimed the bronze medal.
While talking about her achievement at Olympics, Saina said that it is quite unbelievable to win a medal at the mega event.
She stated, “It's just unbelievable, I am speechless. I am happy that I actually did what I promised and believed in. It is a dream to win gold but I am happy that at least I have a bronze and is the first Indian to win a badminton Olympic medal.”
She also thanked to her coach Gopichand and her father for their huge support which earned her glory.
She further added, “I was an ordinary girl but because of many people, I am a champion today. First I want to thank Gopi sir, then my dad, without whom I am nothing. The co-players who have played with me and all those who congratulated me.”
The spirited Saina was aiming for gold but she is happy with the bronze as winning any medal at Olympics is something challenging considering the fact that the best athletes in the world compete in the tournament.
The Indian shuttler is looking forward to improve further in all aspects of the game in order to keep challenging the world.
