Saina Nehwal happy with her quivering performance in current year – Badminton news
India’s ace shuttler, Saina Nehwal, has been struggling hard in the current year to find a good flow as she failed to win any Super Series tournament.
However, she is happy and satisfied with her quivering performance as she started the year with a severe ankle injury which restrained her to give her hundred percent in major tournaments.
The 21-year-old Saina, who is currently ranked at 4th position in the Women’s Singles world standings, lost many tournaments in 2011 with a narrow margin. However, she is determined to play well in the upcoming events in 2012.
In 2010, Saina won many Super Series titles and undoubtedly it was the best year in her professional career so far. However, ankle injury plagued her performance in 2011 and she remained struggling to find her impressive form throughout the year.
In the last major tournament of BWF Super Series Finals, which took place in China two weeks ago, Saina reached in the final proving that she is back on the right track and has got rid of injuries.
She said, "Last year (2010) was fantastic, I am very happy with those victories. This year, it was kind of tough for me because, I came back from ankle injury. But still, I managed to play four finals and I reached the semi-finals of Japan Open. I think
the performance this year has been fantastic. It is just that I could not win those tournaments and I lost in the finals.”
While talking about her performance in the Super Series Finals, Saina said that she is happy and satisfied as she ended the year in a better way.
She said, "I am very happy that I finished it with a very good tournament, won good matches and in the finals also it was tough. It was a little bit of strategy problem but I think I played really well in the Super Series finals."
Despite the fluctuations in her performance throughout the current year, Saina is not disappointed and is ready and determined to perform well to earn glory for her country in the upcoming year.
Saina intends to gear up her speed in training sessions after April 2012, in order to prepare well for Olympic Games.
