Saina Nehwal overpowers Porntip Buranaprasertsuk to land title berth at Thailand Open GP Gold 2012
India’s badminton queen Saina Nehwal was near to her best as she landed a title berth after edging Porntip Buranaprasertsuk of Thailand at the semi-final clash of Thailand Open GP Gold 2012 on Saturday, June 9, in Bangkok.
The World Number five Saina, who has been working really hard in training sessions to elevate her skills and eliminate all loopholes, lived up to the expectations and managed to win the battle in 42 minutes.
Saina, who is seeded at the top in Women’s Singles main draw of the event, started her run in semi-final clash in a quivering manner but found her flow and registered as inspiring victory over her rival in straight games.
On the other hand, the World Number 17 and third seeded Porntip found a perfect start but failed to maintain her focus and lost to her higher ranked Indian opponent without grabbing any game.
In the opening set, Porntip commanded the pace of rallies and did not let Saina to find a good rhythm.
The Thai lady set up impressive gap of 9-2 on the score board by playing to her maximum potential.
However, Saina increased her speed and reduced the gap to 7-11 until the one-minute interval.
After the break, the top seeded Indian continued putting up fascinating show of aggressive badminton and ended the superiority of her local opponent by reaching at 16-16.
The Indian remained focused in the game and managed to snatch the game from her rival with a dramatic score of 24-22.
In the following game, Saina was in different mood as she did not show any mercy to Porntip and set up a tremendous gap on the score board until the break by reaching at 11-6.
After the mid-game interval, the higher ranked Indian lady was in complete control of rallies while remaining composed in the court.
Saina did not show any sign of urgency and played with confidence which helped her to wrap up the second set easily with a one-sided 21-11 score on the board.
The Indian registered a superb victory over her Thai rival in straight games with a margin of 24-22 and 21-11.
