Saina Nehwal qualifies for quarter-finals of the 2013 Thailand Open – Badminton news
India’s badminton queen Saina Nehwal registered her class in the second round of SCG Thailand Open and secured a quarter-final berth in the Women’s Singles event on Thursday, June 6, 2013.
She defeated Febby Angguni in a 31-minute tussle which was staged at the Nimitbutr National Stadium of Bangkok, Thailand. The top seeded Indian shuttler did not show mercy at any stage of the game and wrapped this showdown in just two games with 21-12 and
21-11 margin.
The lower ranked contestant Febby looked completely helpless on the court as she could not pocket even a single match point and crashed out of this event in a woeful manner.
World number two Saina started the beating from very first stroke and played with an authoritative approach all the way to final moments of opening game. She mounted pressure by claiming many valuable points in a row and relished full benefits of this psychological
edge to place a decent total.
She kept on moving forward at steady pace and finished first half of the set with a respectable total of 11. After the mid-game break, Saina looked bit relaxed and her inactive approach allowed Febby to proceed on points table.
However, the Indonesian campaigner could not continue with same momentum as Saina put her expedition to halt in third quarter of the set. The Indian shuttler struck hard and tipped the scale in her favour with a winning margin of 21-12.
The next game proved just a replay of first one as both contenders were poles apart in terms of performance. Although Febby showed some spark in the beginning but her fluctuated performance led her to a disgraceful exit.
On the other hand, Saina Nehwal showed consistency in her performance. At first, she looked bit confused but then few back-to-back productive rallies put her on track. She made best out of this flow and strengthened her grip with a convincing margin of 11
before interval.
After the one-minute break, Saina dominated in all areas of the game and claimed a straight-set victory with 21-11 score. Now she will lock horns with Juan Gu in quarter-finals of Thailand Open.
