India’s badminton star, Saina Nehwal, has raised the game’s popularity amongst kids in India. Saina, who is currently World Number Four and India’s top shuttler in the Women’s Singles, has enticed more and more children to play badminton.
In India, summer camps have been started and every sports complex is filling with incredible numbers of kids, who want to play badminton. Apart from cricket, there is no other sport that is getting so much regard among children, as compared to Badminton.
The official in-charge at the Guru Gobind Singh (GMHC) Sports Complex, Raj Kumar said that there is a huge strength of kids who want to play badminton and it is all because of the inspiration they have got from there national hero, Saina Nehwal.
Due to the increased number of kids, GHMC has hired the services of Ravi Anand Kumar, a qualified NIS coach, to train the badminton enthusiasts.
Prithviraj, the GHMC Circle In-charge said, “Even if we have another four indoor stadia in the vicinity, we may not be able to meet this demand.”
Coach, Anand Kumar said that badminton is still out of the reach of politics and there is a great chance for every player to prove his worth and get at the top of the game.
Anand Kumar added, “There is less of politics in this sport and 99 out of 100 per cent, any talented player can always look ahead and dream big because the system is such.”
The coach further asserted that Badminton is one of the few games, which has got a proper structure in the country. Badminton in India is gaining popularity and the standard of the game has improved in the past few years.
The growing reputation of Badminton in India is a healthy sign for the future of the game in the country. The involvement further kids in badminton summer camps, clearly indicates that people want their children to grow in this game and represent their country
at the international level.
With players like Nehwal, who inspire the younger generation, the sport is sure to have a bright future in the country.
