Saina Nehwal ready to compete in All England Premier Super Series – Badminton News
Top shuttler of India in the Women’s Singles category, Saina Nehwal, has completely recovered from an ankle injury she got in December 2010 and will be looking forward to regain her lost form in the upcoming event of All England Premier Super Series 2011,
which is going to kick-off on March 8, in Birmingham, England.
The injury she received in the 2010 Asian Games, forced her to drop two major events including the BWF Super Series Finals and Malaysian Open Super Series in the opening month of 2011.
The first tournament she played in 2011 was the Korea Open Premier Super Series at Seoul, South Korea. Saina could not pass the second round because of the injury that again forced her to drop the German Open Grand Prix Gold starting from March 1, in Germany.
She was defeated by Japanese shuttler, Sayaka Sato, in a three-set match in the round of 16. However, she has now recovered and is using the straps around her ankle as a precautionary measure to avoid stress on the tissues.
Saina has occupied the Number Five Spot in the Badminton World Federation rankings. She made a tremendous run last year, when she surprised the top players of China by clinching three back-to-back titles in the super series events. The top shuttler in India
added the titles of the India Grand Prix Gold 2010, the Singapore Open Super Series 2010, the Indonesia Open Super Series 2010 and the Hong Kong Open Super Series 2010 to her collection. She also was among the top four in the 2010 Asian Games. In the BWF World
Championships 2010, the Indian could not pass the quarter-final stage and finished at number five in the mega event.
The 21-year-old shuttler was ranked as the World Number Two in December 2010, when she got an ankle injury that dragged her down to the Number Five Spot. The Indian lady has defeated top Chinese shuttlers several times in key matches. She again wants to
play against them because it improves the quality of her game and there is a lot to gain in the matches against Chinese players.
In the previous edition of the All England Super Series 2010, Saina lost her match in the semi-final stage. This time, Saina is determined to play better and do something remarkable in the upcoming event. Right after the All England event, the Hyderabadi
player will be heading to Switzerland where she will compete in the Swiss Open Super Series event. She wants to keep herself busy in playing more and more tournaments this year.
Saina is fit at the moment and will be in action in next week’s event. She is working hard and is hopeful that her ankle injury will not disturb her anymore in the tournament.
