Saina Nehwal ready to defend her title at the Indonesia Open Premier Super Series 2011
Popular Indian shuttler, Saina Nehwal, is one-step away from defending her title at the Indonesia Open Premier Super Series 2011, which is in progress in Jakarta, Indonesia.
In the title match, World Number Four, Saina, is set to play against China’s Wang Yihan, who is currently ranked at Number Three in the world rankings of Women’s Singles.
In the Women’s Singles semi-final, Saina defeated Shao Chieh Cheng of Chinese Taipei, who ousted World Number One, Wang Shixian, in the second round of the event. The semi-final showdown was a superb fight which took three-sets to decide the winner of the
game.
After winning the semi-final match, Saina said, "It's a great win. I am very happy. I think Indonesia is doing me a special favour by helping me win the tournament. I have won here in 2009, 2010 and this is my favourite venue. It's very satisfying to beat
a hardworking, dynamic player."
Saina took prompt revenge from Shao Chieh, as the Indian suffered defeat from the hands of her opponent in last week’s Singapore Open Super Series. Saina played better badminton this time in Jakarta, which is quite a lucky place for the Indian, as she has
won two back-to-back titles in the Indonesia Open. The final will be a great chance for the Indian to complete her hat-trick in Indonesia.
While talking about Saina's performance, national coach, Pullela Gopichand said, "It's a good win. She was very aggressive and they played a lot at the net. Saina attacked very well in the third game and that made the difference."
The 21-year-old Saina will face Wang Yihan of China, who tamed her team-mate Yanjiao Jiang in a straight-set match with a 21-13 and 21-12 difference.
Saina is determined to play to her full potential against the Chinese rival, who is one of the best shuttlers in the world. If Saina manages to win the final against Wang Yihan, she will be in a good position to find better standings for the 2012 London
Olympics.
