Saina Nehwal targets Women’s Singles crown at the Badminton World Championships 2011: Badminton news
Indian Women’s Singles shuttler, Saina Nehwal, is targeting the Women’s Singles crown at the Badminton World Championships 2011, starting from August 8, in London, England.
World Number Six, Saina, participated in three tournaments last month including the Thailand Open Grand Prix Gold, Singapore Open Super Series and the Indonesia Open Premier Super Series. She failed to win any event as her best result was the final of the
Indonesia Open, where she lost to Wang Yihan of China.
The 21-year-old Saina is not worried with her performance in last month’s events, as her major focus is to perform well in the World Championships. Saina said, “My primary goal this year is to win the World Championships. I have made it to the quarterfinals
of the last two editions and feel I have a very good chance to win it this year.”
Talking about her preparations for the world meet and the possible encounter with Chinese shuttlers in the event, Saina said, “I am going Feels that the Chinese are no longer invincible to train very hard for the World Championships. I will not be playing
any tournament till the worlds as I want to give my best for the World Championships.”
The Indian is struggling hard to clinch the title in a super series event, as she has not won any major tournament this year. Her only title in 2011 was the Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold. However, she is confident to find her lost momentum in the mega event,
where all top athletes will contest for the prestigious title.
Saina is working hard in training sessions to prove her worth in the World Championships. In the previous two editions of the event, Saina failed to pass the quarter-final stages.
However, the Indian is more mature now as she has got an extensive experience of playing at the highest level of the game. She has contested with top shuttlers from all over the world and her chances to win the Women’s Singles title in the world meet are
quite strong.
