Saina Nehwal thrashes Sung Ji Hyun in Women’s Singles semi-final: 2011 Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold
India’s Women’s Singles ace-shuttler, Saina Nehwal, has thrashed Sung Ji Hyun of Korea, in the semi-final showdown of the 2011 Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold, at Sultan Abdul Halim Stadium in Malaysia, on Saturday, May 7.
The top seed, Saina, showed no mercy to the seventh seed, Sung Ji, and finished the match in straight sets by consuming only 35 minutes in the court. The Indian, who suffered a shocking first round defeat in the home event of 2011 India Open Super Series,
has found her momentum and managed to reach in the finals in Malaysia.
Saina employed all of her skills in the starting points of the opening set. She knew that she was playing against one of the best shuttlers in badminton world. The Indian kept a good control over the rallies and established a wonderful gap of 11-5, in the
opening part of the first game.
Sung Ji worked hard to break the flow of the opponent, but lost her control over the bird. She made many unforced errors in the later part of the match. However the Indian played a flawless game by keeping the pace high and won the first set by 21-14, in
just 18 minutes.
The top seed started the second set in the similar fashion as she did in the previous one. Saina kept the speed of the game at the maximum pace and it became difficult for the opponent to match the speed of the opponent. At the end of the first part of the
second game, Saina was leading at 11-6.
The Korean tried to change the tempo of the game in the second half of the set, but failed as her opponent was quicker in picking the bird from all areas of the court. Saina played a perfect game against the confused Sung Ji, who was making many mistakes.
The top seed won the second set by a big difference of 21-13, in just 17 minutes. This Women’s Singles semi-final took 35 minutes, where Saina emerged as the winner with a 21-14 and 21-13 margin.
