Saina Nehwal thunders as Liu Xin blunders in quarter-final of Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold
The prime Indian female singles shuttler Saina Nehwal took the country into semi-finals with her thundering performance against Liu Xin in quarter-finals of Swiss Open on March 16, 2012.
The World Number five shuttler beat her opponent easily in just two games by registering a significant margin of 21-12 and 21-13 on the board.
The solo hope of India in the event, Saina will now compete the Japanese girl Minatsu Mitani in the semi-final contest and she stands a good chances of sealing the victory in second last encounter of the event.
The World Number 12 shuttler Liu Xin was no comparison to her higher ranked opponent and surrendered after getting two consecutive blows in the match which also ended her race to glory.
The third seed player of the tournament, Saina did not show any mercy to her in 34-minute tussle and put up an impressive show of court craft while paving her way to top four ladies of the event.
The 22-year-old Saina displayed her flawless skills in very first set of the match and her opponent could not take the bird properly throughout the game which cost a crucial match point eventually.
The Indian player was stunning in registering the final score of 21-12 on the board as she was in commanding position during the rallies and kept her Chinese rival at lower side.
In following set, which turned decisive, Saina accelerated her speed and stayed in good rhythm with positive attitude. She pocketed the full benefits of her rival’s blunders and there were six times when she scored consecutive points on the board.
Saina clearly had an upper hand over her rival as she bagged seven precious points in the decider with her powerful smashes only. She stamped her opponent shuttler Liu Xin with 21-13 score on the board.
This impressive win cemented her spot in the semi-finals where she is scheduled to face comparatively low ranked contender Minatsu Mitani of Japan.
India is looking forward to hear some good news from birthday girl Saina, born on March 17 1990, as she has fair chances to win against a weak semi-finalist and tread into the title match of Swiss Open 2012.
