Saina Nehwal treads into pre quarter-finals of Women’s Singles event – Badminton News
India’s prime female shuttler Saina Nehwal had a great start in Swiss Open as she cleared the first hurdle and moved into the pre quarter-final round of Women’s Singles event on March 13, 2013.
She locked horns with a lower ranked player Sashina Vignes Waran who put up great resistance and kept her opponent busy for 47 minutes.
World Number two Saina, who is defending champion of this prestigious tournament, had to sweat hard to read a favourable result of 13-21, 21-15 and 21-12.
In the opening set of this match, the Indian badminton queen failed to understand her rival’s game and lost this valuable match point.
Sashina launched an intensive attack and pushed her competitor on the back-foot. She bagged many valuable points in a row and established a decent lead in no time.
This perfect start helped her to rule the court in next couple of rallies and ultimately pile up a significant margin of 11.
Though, Saina Nehwal made every effort to tip the scale in her favour but she failed to revive her lost touch until the decisive figure of 13-21.
However, next game changed the scenario as inexperienced Sashina could not capitalise her first set win and crashed out in a woeful manner.
On the other hand, the Indian campaigner employed all of her brilliance in the game and clinched this vital match point with distinction.
At first, Saina mounted pressure by prevailing in couple of consecutive rallies and then doubled the impact by registering a decent total of 11.
After the mid-game break, she did not lose focus and widened the gap on points table. She maintained a significant difference all the way to game point situation and swept the table with 21-15 score.
The decider was just a replay of previous set as Saina Nehwal did not give her opponent even a single chance to come back and cast her out with a staggering knock.
This time she played aggressive badminton and sealed a splendid win with an impressive margin of 21-12.
Now she is scheduled to meet Petya Nedelcheva in second round and a win will escort her to the quarter-finals of Swiss Open.
