Saint-Etienne keeping tabs on Stephane Ruffier of AS Monaco – Ligue 1 news
Reports in French media suggest that Ligue 1 side AS Saint-Etienne are highly interested in the services of AS Monaco goalkeeper Stephane Ruffier.
The 24-year-old shot-stopper is attracting a lot of interest from Ligue a clubs and also from other European clubs following his inspirational performances for AS Monaco in the 2010/2011 Ligue 1 season. Although the Frenchman put in stellar performances
for the Monegasque club regularly, it was not enough as Monaco were relegated to French Ligue 2 after a dismal season.
The victim of a disastrous season at Monaco is now looking to make a move away from the Stade Louis II in order to stay under the radar of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 national team manager Laurent Blanc. According to French sports daily L’Equipe, Ruffier is now attracting interest
from AS Saint-Etienne.
Reports in the Rhone-Alpes region suggest that the 24-year-old goalkeeper would be brought to the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard in order to give more competition to iconic first-choice goalkeeper Jeremie Janot who has been at the club for over 15 years.
The 33-year-old shot-stopper has played over 342 games for Les Verts and is expected to play for the Rhone club for a few more years before he hangs his gloves. However, the Stephanois club’s direction thinks that the Frenchman is on a decline after being
a loyal servant to the club for such a long time and thinks that Ruffier is the perfect man to replace the veteran.
Furthermore, AS Monaco would not be reluctant to let go of Ruffier as the club is now preparing for life in Ligue 2 for the first time in 34 years. Unless any concrete move for the goalkeeper is made from abroad, it seems that Saint-Etienne might not have
a hard time in acquiring the talented goalkeeper who has made just one appearance for the France national team.
Ruffier is a product of the AS Monaco youth academy and since making his debut in 2005, has played almost 80 games for the Monte Carlo-based club.
