Saints Coach Sean Payton will tee off at the Zurich Classic Pro Am
New Orleans Saints Head Coach, Sean Payton, is heading to play the upcoming PGA Tour staged event of the Zurich Classic Pro Am, the event will take place from April 26 to 29, 2012.
The 48-year-old is currently suspended due to the Bountygate scandal and is not serving as the coaching assistant to the National Football League any more.
Recently, an NFL investigation revealed that Saints’ defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, who served them from 2009-11, ran an illegal bounty programme.
The programme enticed the defensive players to knock out the opponents and earn monetary rewards in return.
After the investigation, Williams was suspended indefinitely and Payton, who was aware of the programme, was suspended for one year.
Now, it will be Payton’s first public appearance after the suspension and he selected golf to improve his image and recover from his NFL wounds.
The Zurich Classic of New Orleans is staged at the TPC Louisiana in Avondale, Louisiana. All the professional golf players are heading to win the glory of $6,400,000 purse event, out of which $1,152,000 is the winning share and winner will also earn additional
500 FedEx Cup points.
Bubba Watson is the defending champion of the PGA staged tournament. He won the 2011 edition, after scoring 15-under 273 and tied for the leading position with Webb Simpson.
Then, Watson scored an early birdie in the play-off mode and claimed his debut win at the Zurich Classic Pro Am.
This was his second PGA victory in 2011, as previously he also won the title of the Farmers Insurance Open in January.
Watson is delivering his best since 2011. Recently, he won the first major of the year, The Masters Tournament and now padding up again to defend his title at TPC Louisiana.
The field is tough. There are many other professionals as well who are expecting much from the upcoming event. Luke Donald has also arrived at the venue and is planning to score well.
Donald has won the Transitions Championship in the current year and is ranked on the second world ranking position.
Hence, Payton will be facing tough challenges from the golf leaders. He can earn back the respect by displaying amazing performances. Meanwhile, he can return to NFL, in the near future as well.
