Saints’ Jonny Lomax recalls life threatening injury - Rugby League update

While talking to reporters on Saturday, October 8, Jonny Lomax of St. Helens revisited the incident when he faced a life threatening accident which took away his memory. The recently recovered player will march into his third Grand Final showdown against
Leeds tonight at Old Trafford Stadium.
He recalled the incident when he was badly injured while he was playing for Rainford High School. He went on and explained, “I got the ball normally, made a little run and stepped into someone. We clashed heads and at the time it looked as though I’d come
off best because he was out. I got up to play the ball though I was pretty dizzy and ended up coming off. I had a bit of pain and a headache over the next five days which just didn’t subside”.
His headache did not go away with time but only grew worse, which landed him on a hospital bed. The player was taking the head knock very lightly but he was in for a major surgical procedure.
It was later revealed that the player had fractured his head, with damaged artery which resulted in “a substantial blood clot”. He also revealed that he did not have any idea how critical his condition had been because he had numbed out during that spell
but the surgeon had told his family that the wound had aggravated so much that to his recovery had also shocked the doctors.
Lomax’s parents have their reservations about his return to playing, after the injury that almost cost him  life. However, despite his parents’ silence over his decision to return to playing, he marched ahead to mark his comeback to the world of rugby.
His mother was more reluctant but she succumbed to her son’s undying desire to prove his on-field brilliance with his return.
His injury brought some baggage of its own and the player had to go through short term memory loss. Initially, doctors had speculated that the 21-year-old will take at least two years to recover fully but fortunately he is going to make his return just after
10 months.
