Saints extended scrum half Lee Dickson’s contract to 2014 – Rugby news
Lee Dickson’s impressive performance during the domestic and European season has helped him secure a long-term contract until 2014 with the Northampton Saints. The move came as a surprise particularly when Dickson’s current contract with the Saints expires
in 12 months. Northampton Saints Director of rugby, Jim Mallinder, earlier today, May 10th, confirmed the extension of Dickson’s contract with the club.
Lee Dickson started his professional rugby career in 2004. At the age of 19, he made his senior club debut for Newcastle Falcons. He remained with Falcons until 2008 and made 49 appearances for the club. In the same year he was selected in the Scotland Under-19
squad, where he was part of the team that took part in the 2004 Rugby under 19 World Cup.
A year later, he moved to England and was instantly included in England's Under-21 team of 2005 to represent England during the 2005 Rugby Under-21 World Cup.
Lee Dickson joined Northampton Saints at the start of the 2008/09 season as he ended his impressive career with the Falcons. His performance during the year helped him earn a call for England Squad for 2008 Six Nations tournament.
The 26-year-old has made 88 appearances for the Saints, including 21 appearances in European competitions. Until now, he has scored 10 tries for Saints. He has played an important role for Saints European and domestic campaigns this year. His exceptional
performances during the season came in the Saints European knockout stages during the Ulster and Perpignan matches.
Saints have also secured an Aviva Premiership semi-final with the Leicester Tigers after they beat Leeds Carnegie last weekend. Although he was not playing in the last game, he has a pivotal role in the side’s success in the season. Dickson has already helped
saints to clinch European Challenge Cup and Anglo Welsh Cup titles.
Dickson has praised the club management, coaching staff and players and has termed himself lucky to be part of the team. He said, “I’m lucky to be a part of a club that's going places and it's been really enjoyable to be a part of something that is getting
better every season.”
Dickson remained out of action most of this season due to injuries. However, whenever he took to the field he performed well. The same is expected in the next few months as the Saints fight for the European and domestic titles.
