Saints may have to do without rookie RB Mark Ingram for visit to Titans – NFL News
New Orleans Saints may miss their rookie Running Back Mark Ingram on Sunday against Tennessee Titans as he recovers from a turf toe injury.
Ingram sat out practice to rest his injured toe sustained during the 31-17 victory over Detroit Lions last week. Talking to reporters with a protective walking boot the running back believes that he is ready to play against the
Titans but will not force the issue if the Coach feels that he is not 100% fit.
"At the end of the day, it's like, whatever's best for the team," Ingram said. "If I feel like I can play and bring my best to the table, I'm going to go. But if I can't bring my best to the table, if that's what's best for the
team, then I'll sit it down."
Saints fans however need not be worried too much as their team is in prime form this season with a two game advantage over Atlanta Falcons to sit top of the National Football Conference South Division. The Saints who are on a four
game winning streak are favourites against the Titans. The other good news is that last season’s leading rusher for the franchise Chris Ivory is ready to go and reclaim his starting berth from Ingram.
Ivory who was massive for the Saints in last season has played just twice in 2011 with illness early in the season seeing him losing out to competition at Running Back. Now with Ingram potentially sidelined Ivory will be ready
to get himself back into the mind of Coach Sean Payton.
"It's always hard when you want to be out there, but all I can do is sit back and wait until my number's called," Ivory said.
Ingram who joined the Saints in 2011 as a first round draft pick was having a great season with five touchdowns and 122 carries for 474 yards. Against the Lions he played a crucial role in denting Detroit’s hopes to qualify for
the wild card spot with 16 carries for 54 yards and a brilliant 14-yard touchdown.
Coach Sean Payton however can relax since two of his regular running backs are fit to play and a player with the talent of Ivory waiting for his chance the injury to Ingram will not make much of an impact as Saints gear up for
Sunday’s visit to Tennessee.
