Saints rested and ready for Week 12 encounter against Giants – NFL Preview
National Football Conference South leaders New Orleans Saints will continue their season this Monday against struggling New York Giants. Saints are 4-0 at home this season and will look to improve on that record at the Mercedes-Benz
Superdome in New Orleans.
"Four of the next six games at home ... and this is our opportunity to try to separate ourselves and really establish our position both in our division and in the conference," Saints quarterback Drew Brees said.
New Orleans Saints return to the National Football League well rested. They played their last game in game week 10 against Atlanta Falcons winning 26-23 in overtime after Falcons Coach Mike Smith made a call that doomed his team
allowing Saints to go top of NFC South.
Saints will be looking to 3rd ranked quarterback Drew Brees to power them to a fifth straight home victory. The quarterback is in enviable form and will be a major factor during the game. Brees aged 32 leads the NFL
in yardage covered with 3,326 yards and is second only to Aaron Rodgers of Green Bay Packers in pass completion with a 70.9% completion rate.
The veteran quarterback is excited to get back on the field after a long bye week for Saints saying
"We have enough of a veteran team now, and leadership and character, and guys just knowing the right thing to do to take care of themselves and make sure they're prepared and ready when we come back," Brees said.
New York Giants on the other hand are beginning to fall apart in the second half of the NFL. In all the seven seasons under Coach Tim Coughlin it is almost a given that New York Giants will start struggling during the business
end of the season after good starts. The Giants have lost their two games advantage in NFC East, losing their pole position after losses to San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles which comes on the back of an earlier three game winning streak.
However Coughlin has denied any link with the past seasons for Giants recent struggles saying
"It is not going to be the history, believe me," Coughlin said. "I know that this is something fanatically involved with all of you but each team is a new team and each year is a new year."
Giants quarterback Eli Manning will also try his best to snap Giants two game losing streak. The former Superbowl Most Valued Player has covered 2,952 yards this season with a 62% pass completion rate. He is ranked 6th overall
in the NFL.
The Giants will be looking toward Manning to provide the passes as their whole offensive play depends on passing touchdowns gaining an average of 281.4 yards per game (5th highest in the league) while they are the worst
team in the league for rushing yards gaining a mere 83.2 yards per game.
New Orleans will be favourites for the win with ESPN’s Accuscore predicting a Saints victory 67% of the time in 10,000 match simulations and with both teams poor on the defence New Orleans better and well rested offensive lineup
may well turn the game in their favour.
