Sajid Mahmood to play for Western Australia in Big Bash T20
English pace bowler http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sajid-Mahmood-c88005 will play for Western Australia in the domestic Twenty20 competition. The competition, which is also called the KFC Big Bash T20, begins from 30 December and will go on
till 5 February next year.
Mahmood, the 28-year old Lancastrian, was selected in place of West Indian pace bowler Kemar Roach who had to return back home after he was selected to lead the pace bowling attack of the West Indian side
in their series against Sri Lanka.
Mahmood, who is a tall and a strapping pace bowler and can hit the ball long batting lower down the order as well, has played international cricket for England. He participated in four T20 internationals.
Apart from this, he has also played in eight Test matches, including some in the previous Ashes in Australia and 26 ODIs.
The coach of Western Australia, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mickey-Arthur-c1969 welcomed the selection and said, "He is a genuine strike bowler and a capable batter who hits the ball a long way, so he offers us the complete package."
Mahmood was also happy and said to the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lancashire-c806 website that it would be huge to be a part of the Australian club cricket.
He said: "Playing state cricket out in Australia is going to be a fairly big thing for me. I've never played for a first-class team abroad, so it's going to be a new challenge. Going over there as an overseas
player will be a different pressure. Hopefully I'll grow as a person and as a cricketer."
Western Australia have also got the services of another West Indian cricketer, Chris Gayle and it remains to be seen whether the left-handed opener also gets selected for the tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758. In that case,
the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Western-Australia-c865 may need to start looking around and get in another overseas player.
Victorian Bushrangers are the defending champions in the tournament while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Australia-c844 were the previous year’s runner-up.
