Warne and McGrath were the iconic seam and spin bowlers of their era, and played a pivotal role in Australia’s reign at the top of ICC rankings throughout the 1990’s and early 2000’s. Both retired in 2007, with a total of 1271 Test wickets between them,
and while Anderson (currently at number 3 on the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 bowler rankings) and Swann (at number 4) share just 455 so far, Saker is convinced the English duo is made of similar stuff.
“When Jimmy and Swann bowl together it is not unlike McGrath and Warnie at times,” said Saker. “McGrath and Warne in tandem were amazing but I have seen some spells from Jimmy and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ernest-William-Swanton-c56374 that have been just as good or better at times.”
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Newell-c76124, who had previously expressed interest in coaching Bangladesh, has withdrawn from the running, citing family reasons as the case.
Newell, who is currently the director of cricket at Nottinghamshire, was shortlisted by the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mark-John-Greatbatch-c74652, Dermot
Reeve and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kepler-Christoffel-Wessels-c71006.
However, he has recently revealed that it would be difficult for him to leave his young family for up to 10-11 months a year, and also added that he was reluctant to leave http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nottinghamshire-c826, where he had worked for 30 years, and been coaching for 10.
In the wake of a recent thawing of sporting ties between Pakistan and India, officials from the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 (BCCI) have revealed that the two national teams may play a limited-overs series
in late 2012/early 2013.
A series of meeting between the two boards were conducted on the sidelines of the Indian Premier League final in Chennai, and both parties found a free slot where a couple of ODIs and a T20 match can be scheduled.
The development is one among several which suggest that a resumption of bilateral sporting ties between the two countries may be on the cards. Recently, the BCCI issued an invitation to PCB chairman Zaka http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashraf-c46397 to watch the IPL final, and have also confirmed
the participation of Pakistan’s domestic T20 champions, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sialkot-c842 Stallions, in the upcoming Champions League tournament.
