Sakio Bika and Andre Ward reveal upcoming fighting strategies
Sakio Bika and WBA super middleweight king Andre Ward have revealed respective strategies for their weekend bout in Oakland, California at the Oracle Arena.
Bika (28-4, 19 KOs) hopes to redeem himself after being disqualified in his last bout; Ward hopes to prove he can maintain his reputation as the top super middleweight in the world.
In a recent conference call, Bika said: “I know Andre has a very good style.  He moves a lot and will be very tough. On the 27th, everyone will see what I will bring to beat Andre Ward. I don’t need to say too much about his style. It will be an exciting
fight.”
Bika will have to bring all of his assets to Ward, whom he will be fighting in his hometown.  That means a decision is likely to go to Ward, forcing Bika to look for the spectacular knock-out.
Bika, in part due to past performances and his recent disqualification, is known as being somewhat of a dirty fighter willing to do anything to win.  That includes blocking with his elbows, pushing, and using all points of the ring to gain advantage.
“Everybody knows how he [Bika] is going to fight,” Ward said.  “My job is to subdue him and take control of the ring.”
Ward expressed a keen desire to stop or knock out Bika, a fighter who has gone the distance with the likes of current IBF king Lucian Bute and Joe Calzaghe, testament to the kind of fighter he is in the ring.
Though the bout with Bika will be for Ward’s title, it will not formally count towards the Super Six tournament to which Ward is currently contracted.
In terms of the tournament, Ward is already guaranteed a bout in the next round of competition as he leads the pack undefeated and with six points.
“At this point, Carl Froch and Arthur Abraham and Lucian Bute [top competitors] are non-factors,” Ward confirmed. “It’s all about Sakio Bika right now. I’ll take a line from Vince Lombardi: Success demands singleness of purpose. I’m locked in on Sakio Bika
and Saturday night.”
