Salacres Sparky, 9 to 4 betting favourite, performs below par in 500m Grade A1 Heat at Nottingham on Jan 13
Salacres Sparky, the son of Head Bound out of Liscahane Frisky, finished another fourth at Nottingham on Friday, January 13, 2012.
Prior to the start, P H Harnden’s trainee was given the odds of 9/4, the highest by any of the six participants.
However, the black hound performed poorly, merely managing to seal fourth position on the chart.
The 500 metre long Grade A1 heat was won by Bringthemhome, trained by M T Munslow. With the winning chances of 3 to 1, the black hound began the race from the fifth trap, clocking the distance in 30.73 seconds.
The second and third positions were respectively seized by Fintans Freddie, and Highclere Chief - the two hounds with joint starting price of 5 to 1.
It was a close contest between the two, but the son of Droopys Scolari out of Fintans Gwennie, Finatan Freddie won the second position by a head distance.
The dog covered the distance in 30.79 seconds, after leaving the trap. Just 0.02 seconds short of the runner-up, Highclere Chief, trained by E Saville, he sealed the third spot.
Salacres Sparky’s run was not that impressive, as he covered the distance in 30.89 seconds. He started off the sprint from the second stall, finishing third last on the chart.
He was followed by Magical Polly, the lone female hound in the race. Trained by V A Green, the daughter of Collision out of Shelbourne Julie, was sent off with the odds of 8 to 1.
After her discharge from the first trap, the b***h concluded the heat in 31.57 seconds.
The last place went to Racecourse Road, the son Droopys Vieri out of Coffee In Brazil.
With the winning probability of 7 to 2, the white and black dog commenced the show from trap number four. Failing to do anything decent, the hound wrapped up the party in 31.61 seconds.
Bringthemhome recorded his first victory after a break of more than two months. By beating the favourite hound, the son of Balintore Brave out of Ahavoher Rachel, established himself as a fearful competitor.
On the other hand, P.H. Harnden, Salacres Sparky’s trainer, will have to be patient and continue with his efforts on Salarces Sparky to extract the best out of his dog.
