why have the nrl forced clubs to count individual sponsorship deals in the salary cap. if a player is good enough and nike wants to throw 1 million dollar contract at them why not? the game would get more media coverage with players being involved in ads etc. that way the players would be happy to stay here in Australia and not run of to england and union. I don't understand?

I throw another thing in there why don't we have a draft like in NFL, it seems to work really well.

  1. I really hate how our comp is soo americanized with these franchise clubs etc, comp should go to promotionn/regulation system.

regarding the sponsorship deals i suppose that the NRL signs a contract with Adidas or some company that would be in the region of maybe $30m a year and they don't want to jeapodise that by letting players receive money from other sponsors and appearing in their ads. Similar to Rugby union on that if you wear a head gear with the sponsor/maker on it(like nike or adidas) you could get fined. Weird thing business is.

  2. im an afl supporter, and follow storm in the nrl

    but....

i was unaware that personal sponsorship deals were counted in the salary cap. they dont do that in the afl

but then again, there are no other competitions (unless you count nfl punter scouts) poaching our players so it really doesnt matter

i just read in another answer, that the reason they include these sponsorship deals in the cap is to discourage players to have deals that conflict with the nrl's sponsors

as for a draft, i dont see how it will improve the comp

    perhaps make it more fair????
