Salary employees, do you feel used by your employer?

Does anyone live in a place where they are not over-worked hours for their salary? If you don't get paid OT, but are still expected to work 80 hours a week, do you get any form of compensation for your efforts, or do you have employers who tell you that you work salary and they can work you 24 hours a day if they want to?

  1. Well for me it doesn't matter, as far as i love my work...

  2. I did, but I worked for a couple people at the same time. They would always give me things to do last minute and me being to nice I did them and stayed extra and then it became habit for them. It go so bad they just used me and never gave me a raise even though I worked my butt off. So I quit!

  3. I'm an attorney.  Long hours go with the territory and you work until you complete what has to be done.  It's a function of professionalism.

  4. im a salary employee.  i work for a foreign company in the US and i end up working 50 hr weeks... but only get paid for 37.5 hr weeks... do not get paid for OT and i am supposed to be on call/available on my blackberry all day everyday weekends included -- dont feel abused though -- im the new guy

  5. Employment is a mutually advantageous agreement. If the terms of the agreement (explicit or implied) are no longer advantageous to you, you should move to a job that is.

  6. I'm salary. I typically work just 40 hours per week. There have been a few times when I've worked a few extra hours, but not much. When I do, I don't mind. My company pays me a fair wage and its pretty rare that I have to put in extra hours.

It doesn't bother me when I work a few extra hours without pay. I'd be upset (and I'd be looking for a new job) if they wanted me to work OT all the time.
