I've always had the most problems with my salchow. I can't seem to ever be able to get the nice hook in the ice from my takeoff. I know I take off too early, but I just can't seem go get myself to do it right. Does anyone have any tricks they've used to help them get it?

  1. try doing a mohawk into it instead of a three turn.

when i got to my double sow, i could never get on a three turn i started using mohawks and got it almost right away.

the same technique works on my triple sow.

  2. the secret to a good salchow is to keep ur back straight and not do a wide three turn. it kno it is hard to understand but you cant keep ur legs out rllly wide on the three turn or it makes the jusp crooked and slingy. just go slow and ur back straight... Gud luck ♥

  3. I have no tricks but I practice eighht hourse a day, if you want it you want it. No question.

  4. Be careful that you're not trying to rotate before you leave the ice.  Count each step of the entrance in your head, making sure you check each position.

    #1 push back

    #2 step forward

    #3 3-turn

    #4 jump

If you say you're taking off too early, stop the rotation from the 3-turn prior to jumping.  Practice just the entrace over and over, checking the 3-turn hard enough to stop yourself at the end of your 3-turn position.  So practice #1, #2, #3 HOLD!  :)  Really use your arms to check.  Remember, checking stops rotation.  Your arms are just as important as your legs and feet in skating.

Once you have that down, add the jump.  Get your knee through high, as if you were walking up stairs 2 or 3 at a time.

    Good luck!  :)
