Salcido flies in for Fulham talks
Carlos Salcido is set to fly into England to hold talks with Fulham over a possible move to the Premier League club.
Mark Hughes has made no secret of his desire to sign the versatile full-back and the news could be a strong indication that Paul Konchesky is one his way out of the club.
Fulham manager Mark Hughes said: "We're looking to obviously add to the quality we undoubtedly have. If we can conclude deals right up to the window then that's what we'll look to do. We've enquired, obviously, about Salcido and hopefully we will get that one over the line."
Salcido is a very skilful player and his signature would represent a real coup for Fulham as a number of top clubs have apparently been tracking the Mexican since the World Cup. It's now up to Hughes to get a deal sorted out.
Skills and quality
Salcido's biggest skill is the fact that he can play on either side of the pitch. This means he will provide additional cover to Fulham if injuries develop to key players. Versatility means a club do not have to gamble on players when there is even the smallest concern over fitness.
His main position is at left-back and he would be used in an attacking style by Fulham. He is very quick and very fit and this allows him to run up and down the flank throughout a game. Modern day defenders have to possess the ability to get up the pitch and support the wingers.
The fact he is very comfortable in possession is a massive asset. Attacking players often try and pin down full-backs into the corners of the pitch so they make mistakes and concede free kicks and corners. Salcido does not seem to panic and simply plays the efficient pass.
Hughes added: "He is a player that I think will help us in terms of his flexibility and his ability to play a number of positions. We are looking to have quality in all positions. Left-back is a position we are a little light in."
Betting advice
Fulham are a well organised team in all areas. Salcido coming in at left-back would add a dose of real quality to the defence. His arrival would mean the club have a better chance of scoring in attack and conceding fewer goals in defence.
