Salden Licht to retire following an injury
Salden Licht will not be able to continue racing after he suffered a serious injury during his previous race at Kempton in England on Friday, January 25, 2013.
The seasoned runner enjoyed a very good career and performed brilliantly for his team with consistency. He was quite a tough competitor and was in very good form, winning his first race of the 2013 season.
However, things did not really go well in his most recent outing, as he finished in sixth place overall. He was up against some decent runners, but was expected to deliver a strong result. The bookies had awarded him a starting price of 5 to 2, but the injury
restricted him from giving a tough time to his opponents.
His trainer, Alan King, confirmed the news of the retirement and said that Fantastic Light’s son was a great horse. He said, “Salden Licht suffered a bad suspensory and won't be able to race again, and we are in the process of trying to sort him out a good
retirement home.”
He went onto say, “He was a smashing versatile horse for us. He won three races in France before we got him but he won again on the level at Doncaster, clocked up three wins over hurdles, as well as finishing third in the Grade 1 at Aintree, and then completed
the full house when winning over fences at Plumpton in January.”
Overall, the nine-year-old gelding has participated in 25 races, winning eight of them whereas finished as a runner up on five times. Moreover, he secured the third spot on four occasions, which shows that he was capable of challenging for the top-three
positions with consistency.
He was a versatile performer, as he took part in all sorts of events. His performances on flat turf were really good and won 50 percent of his races in that format. Other than having a very good speed, he was a decent jumper too.
Salden Licht did an equally good job in races over hurdles and fences, which proved that he was an all-rounder. He was such a good galloper and his fans would have liked his career to end in a better way.
