In the state of colorado there is a sales tax of 2.9% on all goods purchased. If Jan buys a television for $599, what will be the final bill, including sales tax?

can anybody help me with this problem?

  3. well you know that 100 % = $599 and you want to work out what 102.9% is, therefore take 599 and multiply is by 1.029 = $616.371 round it down to $616.37 and thats what the final bill will say

  4. 599 * 0.029 =  $17.37

    Now add that to the original (tax free) price. So:

    $17.37 + $599 = $616.37

  5. The sales tax would be:

    (cost)(tax / 100)

    = (599)(2.9 / 100)

    = (599)(0.029)

    = 17.371

    = $17.31

    That's the amount you need to add to the original cost.

    599 + 17.31 = $616.31
