“Sales are going very well,” Tigers’ GM Dave Dombrowski – MLB News
In an interview with a leading sports website, Detroit Tigers’ General Manager Dave Dombrowski stated that the ticket sales are going extremely well this season. The team has already gone past the target of 15,000 season ticket holders this year.
Since the Tigers signed a multi-million dollar deal with Prince Fielder, the fans have shown more interest in Tigers’ day-to-day activities. Fielder was absolutely sensational last season as he hit .299 average with 120 RBI’s and 138 home-runs. His $214 million contract is the fourth largest in history of Major League Baseball. Tigers’ fans are desperate to see him perform in Detroit’s ballpark.
"They have been going very good," Dombrowski said of season-ticket sales Tuesday during the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association's Tiger Day.
"Where we go with ticket prices, we don't make those decisions until the off-season, when we sit down with Mr. (Mike) Ilitch," Dombrowski said.
It will be challenge for Fielder to live up to the expectations. However, considering his ability to play aggressively under pressure, he is unlikely to disappoint Tigers’ supporters. Although many baseball analysts and writers believe that the Tigers-Fielder deal could prove to be worst move of the offseason, Dombrowski has other ideas.
According to sources, Tigers’ GM wanted to sign on Fielder a long time ago but due to striker’s unavailability he had to wait until the end of 2011. Dombrowski further added that the organisation will not disclose the exact number of tickets sold but it is getting an excellent response from their supporters.
With 2011 Spring Training starting in a couple of weeks, the Tigers will be hoping to live to their immense potential. Last season, Jim Leyland (Tigers’ Manager) and his men did a fantastic job to win the American League Central title.
With even better pitching and hitting lineups, they are favourites to win the World Series title in 2012. Answering a question, Dombrowski told the reporters that sales for Spring Training session were also going well. Fielder, on the other hand, will be hoping to make the most of available opportunities to justify his $214 million contract.
