Question:

Sales tax on parts covered under WARRANTY?

We had to have a part replaced on our heating and air system, which was covered under warranty. The business owner told me all I would have to pay was shipping on the part, and labor costs- but when I got the bill, he charged me an extra $37.50 in sales tax on the part that was under warranty. Before I call and inquire about my bill, I was wondering if this is normal... because in OUR business, if something is under warranty, there's NEVER a charge, so I'm a little confused by it.

  1. that charge may be for the sales tax on the LABOR which was not covered under the warranty.  parts are usually covered under warranty for 90 days to  years depending on what part went bad.  most labor is usually only covered for the first 90 days.       call and ask them what the tax was for.

your right that most things covered under warranty shouldn't cost you anything, but labor is something else.    read your warranty again to see if that's the case.

  2. What state are you in?
