  1. 172 in total

  2. take 149 and multiply it by 0.0625 =  9.31  for a total of 158.31

  3. 6.25% is .0625.  Multiply the price of the item before tax by .0625 to get the sales tax amount.

  4. multiply 149 by 1.0625 and it will give the complete total

multiply 149 by .0625 and it will give you the tax then add it to 149

  5. multiply .0625 times 149. then add that amount to 149 and you have your total. 158.31

  6. 149 x .0625

  7. 149*.0625

  8. $149 x 6.25 / 100 =  $9.3125
