Salford City Reds add versatile Australian player Joel Moon to squad – Rugby League News
Manchester based English Rugby League franchise, Salford City Reds, has announced the signing of Australian utility backs player, Joel Moon, to strengthen their squad for next season. Club officials have confirmed the signing of the versatile five eight and centre player, Moon, in a statement released on their website on Thursday, September 8.
Moon has inked a two-year deal with the Reds as the later continues their strong recruitment drive to add more depth to their squad for the upcoming 2012 Super League season.
Salford City Reds head coach, Scott Parish, has expressed his delight on acquiring the services of the Australian backs’ player Moon. His inclusion in the squad will require him to take over for the outgoing Stefan Ratchford.
Ratchford will leave the Reds at the end of the 2011 Super League season, to join Warrington Wolves.
The Queensland born Moon started his professional career with the Australian National Rugby League (NRL) outfit, Brisbane Broncos, in 2006. During his three seasons stay at the Broncos, Moon made 31 appearances for the club. He has scored 40 points for Broncos also.
In 2009, Moon signed his new contract with the New Zealand based outfit, New Zealand Warriors. He has made over 44 appearances for the Warriors and has delivered some remarkable performances for them.
The 23-year-old Moon was fortunate enough to earn a place in the 2011 Indigenous All Stars team, as a replacement for Sam Thaiday. He will join his fellow NRL player Shannan McPherson at the Reds.
In addition to Moon, Reds has also announced the signing of Jordan James, Ben Gledhill and Shannan McPherson to add depth in their squad for their 2012 season’s campaign. The duo of James and Gledhill will arrive from Reds Super League rivals Crusaders and Wakefield Wildcats Trinity.
Meanwhile, McPherson will join the Reds from the NRL outfit, South Sydney Rabbitohs.
Parish has also expressed his confidence with the recruitment process.
