Question:

Saliva when I'm running..?

So this happens to me all the time. Whenever I'm running, my saliva gets really thick. This isn't a problem if I'm running outside cause I can just spit it out and keep running. But if I'm running over a mile or so inside or on a treadmill, I have to cut my running short because my saliva gets so thick that its hard to swallow it and it feels like its gagging and choking me. Is there any way to stop this from happening? I run at the end of my workouts at the gym so I'm drinking plenty of water beforehand..

  1. The only thing I could think of is that you're dehydrated. You need to drink before, maybe even during and after if that's happening. I'd reccomend you try that and if it doesn't help, then you should ask a medical professional about it.

  2. keep a garbage can next to the treadmill and spit out when you need to.

  3. that means that ur lacking water. your pretty dehydrated so while your running, just keep drinking water. youll also find that youre tasting blood which is a reminder that you need water!! hope this helps. youll need to drink water all the time.

  4. yeah...i hear ya. its cotton mouth nothing you can do besides spit when your running till you get to some water then when you drink something it will help

  5. it thickens because the water in your system is being released as sweat and being used to help your muscles.

    You need to drink more.

  6. Keep an extra bottle or tissue to spit in or run to the bathroom quick to spit and get back on the treadmill.

  7. If you're on a treadmill, have a bottle of water nearby.

The occasional drink help with this.

  8. Put tap water into a bottle and carry that with you at all times when you run.  That 'thickening' of your saliva means you are getting dehydrated, and dehydration makes running more difficult.  If you are at the gym, there should be a 'cup holder' or bottle rack on the treadmill.  If you are running outdoors, get a 'belt clip' you can hook your water bottle to and unhook it easily so you don't have to stop running ... just take a sip or two and keep on going ...

  9. i dont know man

  10. that thick saliva is caused from dehydration.

i would suggest drinking plenty of water through out the day, every day.

your body can only absorb so much water at once, so if you drink water while you're working out, then your body is absorbing the water for sweat. by the time you get to running, you have no more water left. Start drinking water when you wake up. and keep drinking water all during the day. and do that every day. take a water bottle with you every where and always drink water.
