Sally Fitzgibbons wins third quarterfinal heat of the 2011 Billabong Rio Pro – Surfing news
Sally Fitzgibbons of Australia claimed an emphatic victory in the third quarter-final heat over Pauline Ado of France by a fringe margin of 12.44 to10.97 at Barra Da Tijuca on Sunday.
“It’s a long year and there are a couple of events to go and it has been great here competing in Rio for the first time. Looking into the next few events it’s really going to be about stepping it up and having fun and focusing on my surfing. Hopefully I
can get a few more results,” said Fitzgibbons.
Sally Fitzgibbons is a renowned surfer of Australia in the world today. She has captured the attention of the world due to her thrilling and versatile performances in competitive surfing events.
She took home the 2011 ASP Rip Curl Women’s Pro title at Bells Beach in Australia. She also won the 2011 ASP Subaru TSB Bank Pro WT crown at Taranaki in New Zealand. She came first in the 2010 ASP Estoril Surf Festival 6 Star WQS at Guinch in Portugal. A
year earlier, she snared the golden crown in the 2009 ASP Estoril Festival 6 Star WQS at Guinch in Portugal. Besides, she has won many other titles in competitive surfing events in the world so far.
Meanwhile, Stephanie Gilmore of Australia has won the fourth and last quarter-final heat over Laura Enever by a comprehensive margin of 15.10 to 9.57 at Barra Da Tijuca on Sunday.
“It was tough work out there. Sally (Fitzgibbons) got a couple and I had some opportunities. I only needed a six and was too deep on that wave that came in at the end. Sally’s in the zone right now,” said Gilmore.
She further added that she is immensely delighted and excited by her individual heat in the quarter-final.
Most importantly, 2011 been very good for Sally and Carissa Moore and they are in awesome form right now. It has been really great for the sport and intriguing for her as well.
