Sally Foster conquers Women’s 200m breaststroke prelims – EnergyAustralia SC Championships
Sally Foster of Central Aquatic conquered the qualification rounds of the Women’s 200m breaststroke on fifth day of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Short Course Championships at Challenge Stadium in Perth on Sunday, September 16.
The 27-year-old Foster served notice of her talent in the eight-lap breaststroke discipline as she asserted dominance over her competitors and sprinted her way towards the finishing end for first position.
Foster remained in a lead of four body lengths over her toughest competitor and tapped the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 24.37 seconds for top qualifying position.
With her gruelling efforts, she was followed by Jenna Strauch of Melbourne VIC, who stayed almost four seconds apart and transpired on the finishing end as second best finisher with a timing of 2 minutes and 28.14 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Ashlea Gierke of Noosa, QLD, who remained only 0.06 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 28.20 seconds for third position.
Gierke was traced by Jessica Pengelly of South Africa, who remained 0.74 seconds apart and touched the wall for fourth best position with an effort of 2 minutes and 28.94 seconds.
Subsequently, fifth best qualifying position of the discipline was obtained by Aisling Scott of Nudgee Brothers, who remained 0.46 seconds slower and settled on the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 29.40 seconds.
Scott was traced by her teammate, Kate Dimou, who was 0.12 seconds away from her and entered the playoff as sixth best finisher by producing a time of 2 minutes and 29.52 seconds.
Dimou was followed by Lorna Tonks of Redcliffe League, who remained more than half a body length behind and submitted a time of 2 minutes and 30.18 seconds for seventh position.
Tonks remained 0.16 seconds ahead of Jessica Hansen of MLC Aquatic, VIC, who managed to secure eighth best qualifying position of the discipline by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 30.34 seconds.
Furthermore, Foster expressed her happiness after securing top position of the event and promised to do the same in playoff.
