Sally Foster dominates Women 200m breaststroke semi-final – EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships
Sally Foster of Central Aquatic dominated the Women’s 200m breaststroke semi-final on fifth day of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships at the South Australia Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Adelaide on Monday, March 19.
The swimming event is subject to finalise the Australian team for the forthcoming 2012 London Olympic Games.
With her commendable struggle in the second round, Foster has qualified into the breaststroke playoff as top contender for gold medal. She is now just one-step away from proving her eligibility in the Australian squad to London.
The 26-year-old Foster, who entered the semi-final as fifth best swimmer, lived up to the expectations of her supporters by clinching top position of the event with an effort of 2 minutes and 27.92 seconds.
She was followed by Taylor McKeown of Australian Crawl and Sarah Katsoulis of Nunawading, who stayed 0.69 seconds slower from her and hit the finishing end with a combined effort of 2 minutes and 28.61 seconds.
The duo of second best finishers was chased by Tessa Wallace of Pelican Waters, who stayed 0.32 seconds behind and emerged on the finishing end with the timing of 2 minutes and 28.93 seconds.
Afterwards, Cate Campbell served notice of her talent in the Women’s 100m freestyle semi-final. The 19-year-old Campbell sustained her fastest qualifying position by completing her swim in a time of 53.84 seconds.
With her impeccable effort, she stayed 0.07 seconds ahead of Melanie Schlanger of Southport Olympic Swimming Team, who seized second position of the discipline by posting 53.91 seconds.
The 25-year-old Schlanger was trailed by Alicia Coutts of Redlands, who was 0.20 seconds apart and earned third finest spot of the swim by posting a time of 54.11 seconds. With her impressive effort, she remained 0.02 seconds behind and posted 54.13 seconds
for fourth position.
The crowd appreciated gruelling performances of all participants in their exclusive events whereas these participants will go head-to-head with each other to secure top spot on the podium. Furthermore, the championship will come to an end on March 22 after
the conclusion of all swimming events in Men and Women’s category.
