Salman Butt, Asif and Amir not allowed to practice in nets: Yawar Saeed
In what could be termed as the most recent development in the controversy that has taken the media by storm, several http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 players have been stopped from practicing. Pakistan’s cricket team had to leave for Taunton on Tuesday at the end of the Test series, however, the scandalous reports, meant that they departed earlier than scheduled to escape media attention.
It is unlikely that the players, who are in the midst of the controversy, will finish they tour. They are being questioned as the police and the ICC prepare their report on the spot fixing fiasco that has devastated Pakistan cricket.
"Although the players will still be deemed to be innocent until proven guilty, it's almost certain they will taken out of the firing line and the formula of words citing mental pressure and a lack of necessary focus, will necessitate their withdrawal from the T20 matches and the One-Day series", cited one source.
After scathing criticism of the Pakistan Cricket Board and the team management, it is unlikely that the players involved in the scandal will be played in the ODI matches. For they would certainly lack the mental focus required to go into an international game. As a result of calls for accountability and discipline, Yawar Saeed has announced that Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir, and Mohammad Asif will not be practicing in the nets and will meet the PCB officials at Pakistan’s High Commission in England tomorrow. The players have also contacted a lawyer, and during their meeting with the PCB officials the lawyer will be present as well.
It is interesting to note, that Kamran Akmal will still be practicing in the nets, despite him being in the middle of the allegations, and one of the four players named for spot fixing by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 earlier this year. With a huge question mark on players underperforming in the Sydney Test that Pakistan seemed all set to win.
It is yet to be seen, what the result of the investigative reports is going to be, and one can surely expect, that the players if found to be involved in spot fixing, they will be duly punished by the PCB.
