Salman Butt and Amir leave for hearing
The provisionally suspended duo of Pakistani fast bowler Muhammad Amir and Test captain Salman Butt, have left for Dubai today to appear in a hearing before an ICC tribunal in connection with spot-fixing allegations levied against them by a British tabloid
called News of the World (NOTW).
Salman and Amir, along with Mohammad Asif, were suspended by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on the 2nd of September under article two of ICC's anti-corruption code. Last month the trio had filed separate appeals against their suspension
but pacer Mohammad Asif withdrew his appeal last week. Both Amir and Butt will appear in two-day hearings that start on Saturday, with hopes of getting their names cleared for international cricket.
While talking to media reporters at the Lahore airport before leaving for Dubai, the players maintained that they are innocent. “My lawyers have prepared well for the case. I will be cleared of spot-fixing charges very soon,” said Salman Butt. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Salman-c88163 has
hired Khalid Ranjha and Aftab Gul while Amir will leave with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-c89347 Karim to fight his case.
A day before, Butt had said “I am confident being cleared as I’ve not done anything wrong.” “I am hoping to return to action soon for my country,” he added.
Butt’s lawyers, Khalid Ranjha and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aftab-Gul-c42202, said that they are fully prepared for the hearing and were hopeful that the verdict would come in favour of their client. “We will not leave any stone unturned and for this purpose we have distributed topics for
debate during the hearing to support our client,” said Gul who will accompany Khalid Ranjha - Salman’s other counsel during the hearing.
The head of the ICC’s Code of Conduct Commission, Michael Beloff, will hear the case of the two players. The teenage pacer hoped that he would soon make a return to the international arena.
