Salman Butt appeals provisional suspension
Pakistan opening batsman, Salman Butt has appealed to the International Cricket Council against the suspension by the ICC. The ICC had provisionally suspended three Pakistani cricketers including Butt,
Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir for their alleged roles in spot-fixing. The match in question was the fourth Test matches between Pakistan and England at Lord’s that ended on 29 August.

The ICC said that the appeal was sent by Butt on Tuesday and will now mean that the ICC will have to appoint an independent panel for the hearing. The other two cricketers, Amir and Asif have yet to file
the appeal against the suspension. It was reported this week that Amir had confessed to the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board chief that he had been forced into match-fixing by the other two. Asif, on the other hand, is said to be getting married.

The players had two weeks to respond to the suspensions, but the players had asked for some extra time. The ICC had agreed and extended the deadline to 2 October.

The ICC chief executive, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Haroon-Lorgat-c61719 expressed his pleasure at the progress made in the case.
"It was only late yesterday we got a submission from Salman Butt - not the other two - and we will move into engaging Michael Beloff to convene a hearing to consider an appeal," said Lorgat.

The next step in the process will now be the hearing in which the ICC will need to establish a strong case against the cricketers on the charges that had led them to be suspended.

The hearing will look into the suspensions and whether that should be lifted from the players or should remain till the full hearing takes place. The full hearing will need to take place within three months
of the players being provisionally suspended.
In previous weeks Pakistan Cricket Board chairman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 expressed support and sympathy for the men as well as having questioned the veracity of the charges against them.
