Salman Butt appeals suspension from cricket
Salman Butt has appealed to the ICC against his provisional suspension from cricket, ICC chief executive http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Haroon-Lorgat-c61719 has confirmed.
Lorgat told the BBC this morning that Pakistan Test captain Butt has requested that his provisional suspension is lifted.
Butt was one of three Pakistan players provisionally suspended from cricket by the ICC after being charged by the ICC under its Anti-Corruption Code.
Butt, and the other suspended players, pacemen Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir, were  charged by the ICC in early September in relation to what the ICC said was “irregular behaviour during, and in relation to, the fourth Test between England and Pakistan at Lord's last month.”
The Lord’s Test was at the centre of a spot-fixing controversy (centring around three no-balls bowled at allegedly pre-determined points in the match) reported in the News of the World in late August.
The ICC is yet to receive appeals from Asif and Amir against their suspensions.
The trio face potential life bans from cricket if they are found guilty of the charges under the Anti Corruption Code by an independent tribunal.
Butt, Amir and Asif were also questioned by police in London in the days following the News of the World’s spot-fixing allegations, but no charges have been brought against any of the trio, who have all since returned to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755.
