Salman Butt features in a club match - sources
Former Pakistan captain, Salman Butt, has become the second suspended player to allegedly flout the directives of supreme governing body of world cricket, the International Cricket Council, after he featured in a club match in his home town
Lahore.
It has been reported that the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 opener, who along with the new-ball pair of Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif, was suspended from all forms of cricket in September last year, featured in a club match at his home ground in Model Town,
Lahore.
A leading Pakistan newspaper has claimed that the officials of Lahore cricket association were also there when Butt took part in the match.
The ICC has clearly told the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the suspended trio that they cannot participate in any sort of cricket activity that comes under the umbrella of the board or its affiliates.
Pakistan Cricket Board, however, has turned down the report and claimed that the former Test captain never participated in any club match since his provisional suspension.
Last week, a leading English newspaper of Pakistan had reported that the teenage pacer, Mohammad Amir, featured in a domestic match between Pakistan Army and Rawalpindi at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium and delivered a few overs for the
former.
ICC took serious notice of the incident and has demanded an explanation from the board on the issue. Amir, later apologized for violating the ICC rules citing his innocence over the matter.
The trio was suspended by the ICC under article two of its anti-corruption code following of spot-fixing allegations levelled against them by a British tabloid named News of the World.
The tabloid had claimed that the trio was bribed by an illegal bookmaker, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448 Majeed, for delivering no balls in some pre-decided time during the fourth Test against England at Lord’s.
A three-member ICC anti-corruption tribunal heard the case relating to the provisional suspension of the trio in Doha, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Qatar-c2986, earlier this month and is due to announce its decision on 5 February.
According to ICC’s code of conduct, the players, if proven guilty, can be handed over a minimum five-year ban and heavy financial penalties. The maximum punishment is a full stop to players’ cricketing career.
