Pakistan’s suspended former Test Captain Salman Butt has rejected all allegations levelled by the International Cricket Council.
The spot-fixing tainted former Test skipper Salman Butt has responded to ICC’s letter by rejected all charges of allegations against him. Butt’s lawyer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aftab-Gul-c42202 while talking to the press said, “We have sent a clear reply to the ICC letter in which we rejected
all the charges against our client, it is a comprehensive reply of 40 pages, responding to all the allegations and accusations against the player.”
According to sources, the reply was prepared by all the lawyers involved in Butt’s case. The former skipper has hired the services of renowned lawyers such as Aitzaz Ahsan, Khalid Ranjha, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Saeed-c89451 and Yasin Patel- an Indian based lawyer. Although it
is still undetermined that which of these formidable lawyers will be representing Butt in the ICC hearing in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Qatar-c2986 set to take place from 6
to 11 of January 2011.
Two weeks ago, it was reported that the evidence given by ICC to Butt’s lawyers was so strong that the player’s legal team was having a very hard time in preparing a defence for their client. It has also been reported that perhaps getting so many lawyers
involved in this case may prove counterproductive.
However, Aitzaz Ahsan believes that a strong case has been prepared to get Butt’s name cleared from all the allegations of spot-fixing that have been levelled against him by the ICC. He said, “Salman definitely has a strong case and we are hopeful of getting
clearance for him.”
Butt seems desperate to get his name cleared and is therefore, taking the services of well-known lawyers. But as the proverb goes that, too many cooks spoil the broth and who knows, this just might prove true for Salman Butt.
The left-handed opener found himself entangled in the menace of spot-fixing during the England tour, when a sting operation launched by a local tabloid “News of the World” unearthed the links of three Pakistani players with a bookie http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448 Majeed.
It was alleged that Majeed paid the players to bowl deliberate no-balls in a Test against England at Lords. Later it was disclosed that Majeed was also Butt’s promoter in England and both had cordial ties. Along with Salman Butt, the other two players Mohammad
Amir and Mohammad Asif were also caught in this fiasco. The three players are now suspended from all formats of cricket and are awaiting a hearing by the ICC to prove their innocence.
