Salman Butt seeking a new counsel after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aftab-Gul-c42202 refuses to further represent his case
Salman Butt, the suspended Test captain of Pakistan is seeking a new lawyer to follow his case in the January ICC hearing on the spot-fixing allegations leveled against him in Doha, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Qatar-c2986.
Salman Butt and two other Pakistan players – the pace duo, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir – were provisionally suspended by the ICC from all forms of cricket in September this year following spot-fixing claims against them by a British
tabloid named ‘News of the World’ (NOTW).
The suspended trio lodged separate appeals against their suspension, though Asif withdrew his appeal a week before the hearing. Butt and Amir had their appeals overturned and suspensions upheld by the head of the ICC’s Code of Conduct
Commission, Michael Beloff, after a two-day hearing at the ICC headquarters Dubai.
The players will now face a three-member independent tribunal of ICC in Doha from 6th January to 11th January 2011 in Doha to prove their innocence. Sources have claimed that the suspended
Test skipper has asked the apex body for an extension in the time limit for submitting details of his legal team and other relevant documents in preparation for the Doha hearing.
"The three players suspended by the ICC, Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif were supposed to submit details of their lawyers and other relevant documents by November 19 to the ICC but Butt has asked for an extension of three-days
as his legal team is not finalized as yet," a source told the media reporters.
Butt’s case was represented by Khalid Ranjha and Aftab Gul during the ICC hearing in Dubai but, according to the hidden sources, after that the latter refused to represent him any longer at the ICC hearing.
The sources also revealed that Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif have already sent the relevant details to the International Cricket Council. Amir’s case is being followed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hamid-c61327 Karim while Asif has hired a British lawyer Elizabeth
Robertson. The source further claimed that the 26-year-old had contacted some legal firms in London to seek help.
"Butt has asked for an extension because on one hand while he is trying to hire a foreign lawyer he is also still trying to convince Aftab Gul to change his mind and represent him," the source added.
The ICC has already asked the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board not to consider the suspended players for their World Cup squad that is expected to be announced on 30th of November.
