Mohammad Amir, the fast-bowler from Pakistan, who was recently implicated in the spot-fixing scandal, has finally broken his silence and has come out to face the media since being released from Portland Young Offenders Institution
in Dorset.
The left-arm pacer gave a one hour long interview to Michael Atherton, the former England captain, who was conducting the interview for Sky Sports. During the interview, Amir claimed that he was manipulated by the then skipper of
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, Salman Butt.
The 19-year-old is seeking forgiveness from all those people he disappointed by getting involved in this malpractice, and reiterated that Butt tricked him into spot-fixing. He said, “I ask everyone to forgive me. I was so angry with
Salman. He took advantage of my friendship. I was manipulated. And I used to respect him like an elder brother.”
Amir admitted that it was his foolishness to fall prey to Butt and Mazhar Majeed, the bookie who was also Butt’s manager. The former Pakistani skipper had asked Amir to bowl deliberate no-balls. He initially refused, but in the end
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448 and Butt somehow convinced him to do so.
Mazhar had requested Amir to bowl two no-balls in exchange for £15, 500 for each delivery, and in reply to this he said, “Bro I'm scared I can't do it. I knew I was cheating cricket. Then I did it.”
The spot-fixing incident took place during the Lord’s Test against England in 2010. It was only after a sting operation from a news reporter that Mazhar Majeed was caught, along with his accomplices.
After the publishing of the news, an investigation was launched that found Amir, Butt and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Asif-c1993 guilty of spot-fixing. The International Cricket Council imposed bans on all three cricketers from participating in any match.
Amir was banned for five years, while Asif and Butt for seven and ten years respectively.
Showing remorse over his actions, Amir said “One day I was on top of the world and the next it came crashing down.  I was stupid. I should have told someone. But I didn't know what was happening to me. I had never thought about this
sort of thing. I thought it was a load of nonsense. This led to my downfall.”
